Having a student with a hearing impairment has its challenges. This seminar is designed to inform and assist teachers in the classroom to maximise learning outcomes.
Training Aims
To inform participants about :
- Hearing loss and how it impacts on a student’s communication, academic and social skills.
- The assistive equipment used by students with a hearing impairment.
- Strategies to assist and maximise the learning of students with hearing impairment in the classroom.
A Certificate of Attendance will be provided for this 6 hour seminar, if requested
Content
• Anatomy and physiology of the ear
• Types of hearing loss
• Hearing loss and how it impacts on:
Communication, language and speech
Academic development
Social skills development
• Audiograms
• Hearing aids, Cochlear Implants and FM systems and how they work
• Practical teaching tips and strategies
Learning Outcomes
• Awareness of how the ear works
• The different types of hearing loss
• Implications of deafness
• Understanding of student audiograms
• Problems with hearing aids, Cochlear Implants and FM systems and troubleshooting
• Strategies for assisting the student
• Strategies to optimise listening conditions
• Strategies to improve classroom acoustics
• Safety issues
