Our Audiology service goals
- To provide free audiological services in cooperation with your other audiologists.
- To work with you and your Auditory-Verbal therapist to ensure that your child is hearing as well as possible and to advise on creating good listening conditions.
- To help you understand your child’s hearing loss, and provide information on looking after your child’s hearing device and ears.
What Audiology services do we provide?
For Hearing Aid users:
We offer audiology services that are complementary to your primary audiological provider, which for most children is the government agency Australian Hearing. At the Centre we are not permitted to provide hearing aids, to adjust them or to repair them - all this has to be done by Australian Hearing.
We CAN offer the following services:
- Hearing aid checks: if you are concerned that they may not be functioning properly
- Aided and Unaided testing: hearing tests to see how well your child is hearing either with their aids on, or without their aids
- Speech perception testing: to see how well your child can hear specific speech sounds
- Tympanometry: quickly checks the middle ear to see if there are any signs of fluid or infection which may interfere with your child’s hearing
- Otoscopy: check for excessive wax which can cause a blockage in the hearing aid, and cause whistling.
For Cochlear Implant users:
For children who have a cochlear implant, our audiologist can provide regular MAPping sessions.
