Thank You
A big thank you to all those in the community who made a donation in our recent 2011 Tax Appeal. Your gift enables South Australian children who are deaf or hearing impaired to learn how to listen and speak.

Family Centred Practice
Why does Cora Barclay Centre endorse family-centred practice?
- International research identifies family-centred practice as the most appropriate early intervention approach for children with disabilities including deafness.
- Family-centred practice is mandated in the USA because international research demonstrates this approach achieves optimal outcomes in speech, language, audition and social-emotional outcomes for children.
- Family-centred practice treats families with dignity and respect and sees the parents/carers as the expert on their child.
- Information is shared between agencies and professionals so that families can make informed decisions on program practices and intervention options.
- Family-centred practice promotes maternal self efficacy.
Parent's self efficacy is critical to their children’s language learning and social-emotional development. - Evidence shows that parental involvement correlates with children’s speech, language and academic outcomes.
How is family-centred practice applied at Cora Barclay Centre?
- Parents hold positions on the CBC Board and on the Program Standing Committee.
